The Story of Karayr or “The Cave” began with a simple image: An interaction between a pre-historic man and a modern man in a cave. This sparked the premise of the film and a script was developed over 5 years. The film embraced a new movement in storytelling referred to as "Arab Futurism", where we explore the imagined future of our region, to reflect the path we’re currently on. The world of Karayr is an imagined Arab future, where a biological bomb regressed people back into cavemen, and a sole survivor who has retained his intelligence adopts a Caveman and attempts to civilize him.

Karayr is a labour of love and passion, made with the support of a community of cinephiles who want to see such films made in the region. When a crowdfunding campaign was launched in 2023, the film achieved it’s target within 3 months, embraced by the community, who are hungry for genre films that reflect our reality from the perspective of a look at the future of our world to reflect on the current issues of society.

The successful crowdfunding campaign was spread over several counties such as Jordan, UAE, Lebanon, Saudi and more, and was finally possible to producer and film in the northern mountains of Jordan.

The end result is a film that is unique, different and is a first step toward a new kind of cinema in the Arab world

Synopsis: In the aftermath of a biological war that reduced mankind to ape-like cavemen, a lone survivor tries to educate a primitive man in "human" behavior in an attempt to revive a new evolution

About Karayr ‘Cave’: Karayr is an Arabic post-apocalyptic independent short film, with Armenian influences. The story is set in a fictional Middle East, and takes place in the wake of a biological war that devolved people back to ape-like cavemen. The events take place between a single survivor and a caveman that walks into his shelter inside a cave.

The movie is the second film for award-winning director Neo Apelian, and is written by and award-winning filmmaker Razan Takash who also serves as producer on the project. The two have achieved impressive results on previous collaborations such as "IDI"(2021) and "M1das" (2020), winning several awards.

This is a passion for Neo and Razan with a script that has been developed over the course of 5 years.
